A methodology to help procurement teams meaningfully integrate climate and nature into supplier decisions - not as a compliance exercise, but as a way of buying that takes the planet seriously.
Procurement is the largest unsolved climate lever - and the most untouchable.
For most companies, 70–90% of emissions sit in the supply chain. Procurement has the formal authority to act on this, and almost none of the language. The questionnaires are the same questionnaires that have been used for two decades. Suppliers ignore them. Buyers tick boxes. Nothing moves. We were asked, by a coalition of Tier-1 buyers, to design something better.
We treated procurement as a design problem, not a compliance one.
Over fourteen months we shadowed buyers, sat in supplier meetings, read every framework on the market, and threw away most of what we found. The result is a methodology built around three loops - a triage, a deep dive, a transition agreement - that scales with the buyer and the supplier. Crucially: it works for organisations at very different levels of climate maturity.
A toolkit, an assessment, and a way of running the conversation.
The tangible output is three things: a 96-page methodology document, a 14-question assessment that fits on a single page, and a facilitation kit for the buyer-supplier conversation itself. The methodology is the spine; the rest is what you actually use.
The first time in fifteen years I've used a procurement framework that didn't make me want to apologise to my suppliers.
